Holiday Gift Ideas for Rock Climbers
I ran across a Suite101 article titled Best Holiday Gift Ideas for Women Rock Climbers by Alli Rainey, a professional rock climber/writer, in which Horn’s Jewelry is recommended. How cool is that? Ms. Rainey specifically mentions our sterling silver carabiner earrings that are part of our rock climbing jewelry line. Also available are many other rock climbing related miniatures to be worn as pendants, earrings, pins, cuff-links or bracelets.
Here at Horn’s Jewelry, all phases of jewelry design and production are conducted in-house by the partners. Ideas for each item are developed and then carved in wax. We then create a rubber mold and use the lost wax casting method to create each of the quality solid sterling silver pieces available on the Horn’s Jewelry and Rock Climbing Jewelry websites.
If you’re looking for climbing-specific jewelry, check out our Rock Climbing Jewelry site for a cool selection of unique items created here in the Rugged Canyon. If rock climbing isn’t your thing, not to worry - just browse the categories at Horn’s Jewelry for other unique sterling silver jewelry. And through December 15th you will receive a 10% discount when ordering three or more items if you use coupon code xmas2010 when you check out.

Sterling Silver Ankh Pendant – Now Available!
A lot has been going on here in the rugged canyon. We’ve had company and a wedding and a number of other happenings that have taken our attention. The good news is that summer seems to finally be here. Well, mostly. It’s a little milder than usual, I think, but I’m not complaining! We’ve had a few days well into the 90s but no triple digits yet.
The exciting news is that the Ankh is finally done! We were a little delayed in getting it finished but it’s on the website now. As mentioned in a previous post, an Ankh is an ancient Egyptian hieroglyph for life or eternal life. Depicted as a cross with a loop as the top, the Ankh appeared widely in tomb paintings and other ancient Egyptian art. Our Ankh was created in response to a customer request and she’s very happy with the result. So check it out!

What Does April Snow Bring?
Ok – so I’ve given up on trying to figure out where April has gone and am now wondering about something else. If April showers bring May flowers, what does April snow bring?Today is April 28th. This is not March 28th. This is April 28th. I repeat – this is April 28th. Is anyone listening? Obviously not Mother Nature!
Where Has April Gone?

Ok - so who took April? The month is vanishing at such an alarming rate - there must be someone responsible! Wasn't it just a snowy Easter a few days ago?The weather here in the rugged canyon is keeping us guessing but we did have a beautiful weekend full of family and fun. The grands got to hunt eggs (as you can see, we don't make it easy!) even if it was a couple of weeks late. At least we had sun instead of snow.

40th Anniversary of Earth Day - April 22, 2010
The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970 and has been an annual event since that time. Founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson to bring awareness to environmental issues, Earth Day was celebrated by 20 million Americans that first year. Just 20 years later, in 1990, Earth Day had spread to 141 countries and involved 200 million people. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which also turns 40 at the end of this year, has a lot of Earth Day information on the EPA website. One of the EPA’s programs is Pick 5 for the Environment, which encourages individuals to commit to at least 5 actions that help protect the environment.
Horn’s Jewelry has a nifty recycle symbol that is available as post earrings or two different styles of pendant - an open ribbon design and a medallion. Order the item of your choice and wear your commitment for all to see! Or give as a gift to a friend or family member. And remember to reduce, reuse and recycle every day! What are you doing for Earth Day this year?
More Crazy Winter Weather
What is with this weather? We have rain, rain and more rain. You can't see it too well in this photo (Karen said I don't have a slow enough shutter speed on the camera) but it's pouring. And we’re supposed to get snow after midnight. At this point, the forecast is for 3-8 inches of snow by Wednesday morning with the level starting at 4,500 feet tonight and dropping to 2,500 feet by tomorrow night. The thing is, we often get snow here in the Rugged Canyon as if we were at a higher elevation so we may wake up to another blanket of white. Well, we need the water so I guess I won’t complain. It was nice to see some fresh snow on the surrounding peaks when I went out a couple of days ago so maybe this will add to the much needed snow pack in the high country.
Red House Coffee in Weaverville is on Facebook!
The Red House in Weaverville is a very cool and cute little coffee shop with great food and drinks and fantastic customer service. And unlike the rest of the crew here in the Rugged Canyon, I don’t even drink coffee! But I stop in at the Red House from time to time for a smoothie or a scone or some other yummy treat. Anyway, they have a very nice presence on facebook now. So check it out. And if you’re ever in Weaverville, stop by in person - you'll be glad you did!
